Business Manager
Visa Renewal Support

PROBLEM

Renewing the “Business Manager” status of residence in Japan
may be considered challenging under the following circumstances:

  • The business has reported net losses for two consecutive fiscal years;
  • There is a cumulative deficit as of the end of the most recent fiscal year;
  • The company recorded no gross profit in both the most recent fiscal year and the preceding fiscal year.

BACKGROUND & SOLUTION

Government statistics show that university-launched deep-tech startups—an area Japan actively promotes—take an average of 5.1 years (median: 4 years) after establishment to become profitable.

To support such entrepreneurs, the Japanese government has clarified that when evaluating the continuity of business operations, a more flexible approach may be taken if a qualified third-party professional—such as a Small and Medium Enterprise Management Consultant or Certified Public Accountant—who holds a public certification recognized as having the capacity to assess a company’s business performance, provides a written opinion. This document must include a reasoned basis for the expectation that the business will improve, including the prospect of resolving insolvency within one year.

At FinMark Edge, we hold the nationally certified qualification of
Small and Medium Enterprise Management Consultant,
and are authorized to issue such evaluation documents

in support of visa renewal applications.
